A number of SJ Community Centers have opened evacuation centers to help residents affected by the storm
San Jose Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services at the City of San Jose presents this special feature
Power outages, fallen trees, mudslides, closed highways, and flash floods were widespread throughout the South Bay during a bomb cyclone.
Due to this emergency, our Parks, Recreation, and Neighborhood Services (PRNS) Seven Trees Community Center opened their doors to community members impacted by the storm on January 4. Assisted by the American Red Cross, the center has been open 24 / 7 since that day and will continue to do so through January 16.
The storm intensified and additional evacuation centers opened, including Camden. Staff at both locations were required to mobilize and adjust their personal schedules rapidly to ensure their fellow residents felt safe and welcome.
Providing residents with heated rooms, snacks, bottled water, restrooms, outlets, Wi-Fi, and other essential services was a priority for these #EssentialWorkers.
#PRNSBest community center staff quickly mobilized in response to the incoming winter storm to ensure residents were safe, warm and welcomed as the storms ravaged the region.
We need more community centers, San Jose libraries, and warming centers to stay dry.

Parks, Recreation, and Neighborhood Services (PRNS) has developed the ActivateSJ Strategic Plan to maintain, improve, and expand our facilities, programs, and services. As we create a diverse park system in San Jose and offer a variety of recreation programs and services, the plan guides how we care for and develop them.
Our mission at Activate SJ is to connect people through parks, recreation, and neighborhood services. You can find out more about our department's plan and vision by visiting activatesj.org.
